I’m not sure about your kids, but mine are always begging to give out candy cards on valentine’s. I’ve said no some years and others I’ll cave.

This year I wanted to do something a bit more fun than just taping some pink smarties to a store bought card, so I designed these free printable sucker tags for my oldest son to hand out. I’ve actually created a ton of free valentines this year, one for each of my kids and a handful that just felt fun to make. See them all at the bottom of this post.

These ones? I had direct orders, ha! He was pretty specific that they couldn’t be ‘cringe’ and say how much he loves everyone with some kind of heartfelt poem.

Fair enough, but I had to sneak in some delightful puns, I am a mom after all and I love joke valentine cards more than anything 😉

These are an easy valentine’s day handouts for a large group- whether you’re looking for your kid’s middle school classroom’s valentine or if you’re a teacher, you can use these printables as valentines day student gift tags- I mean, why not bribe those high school students into some quiet independent work with a sucker or lollipop?

This free valentines printable comes with 8 different sweet themed valentines day cards all hand lettered by me.

The phrases on the cute valentine flags include:

  • I’m a sucker for you, valentine (x3)
  • Happy Valentines Day to you!
  • Happy Valentines Day
  • Have a Sweet Valentines Day
  • You’re sweet, Valentine
  • Hope your Valentines Day is Sweet!

There are affiliate links included in this post where I share links to buy products I’ve used here. Of course, you don’t need to use these to use the free printables, they’re just meant to be helpful 🙂 You can see all of my policies here.

How to use these printable sweet themed valentine’s day tags

This is a PDF download you can snag for free below. These are just regular print files so once you’ve printed them out, you just need to cut them to size and assemble. You can use a paper cutter for the longer straight cuts and have your kids cut the corners of the flags with scissors.

TIP: I’d suggest you have your child write names on the valentines tags before you tape them on to the sucker stick.

Okay, here’s the deal with these ones. I created them, thought they were awesome, but they were big for the suckers I bought. I made them again smaller but my son loved the big versions. So I’ve included both the BIG ones and the smaller ones. You can see both in these photos. So it’s two pages of flags, one size for each page.

The big ones do have a faint dotted line down the flags as an easy way to know where to fold the valentines tags to wrap them around the sucker sticks. It’s not in the middle as it allows room for the sucker stick on the longer side.

Use a piece of tape to affix them and you’re all set! I personally like double-sided tape for this sort of thing (you can find it at the dollar store or here on Amazon), but a glue stick would work fine as well.

We just purchased a pack of suckers from our local store but these heart shaped suckers would be cute as well. If you were giving to just your kids, I know you can get giant heart shaped lollipops from candy stores as well. I’d use the bigger version of the sucker tags for those.

These printable tags are the perfect way to personalize them!

What’s the best way to print these free sucker flags for Valentine’s Day cards

You can print these free valentine’s cards any way you like, but I have a couple suggestions for the best results!

While every free printable is different, these printable cards are simple 8.5×11″ PDF documents which makes them incredibly easy to print at home or at your local print shop. They will print just like a document, without special settings like a photo.

Most of the time, I prefer to print any bag or gift tags or greeting cards on a thick paper like white cardstock (I have this card stock at home right now). They look more professional and hold up better to being passed out this way, much like a store-bought quality card.

That said, these are little flags, they really don’t need the thickness once you fold them in half and add tape in between. Especially if they’re just for your kids handing out to their classroom. I used a lighter weight cardstock on the smaller ones and that worked well.

I’ve designed this printable file to be single sided to make it easier to print and to save on ink if you are using your home printer, but there is still a fair bit of colour in the designs. So just make sure you select single sided printing when you send to print!

Since they do use a little more printer ink, this is probably one I’d send up to the printer shop if I were going to print a whole bunch. If I just wanted to print a page or two though, I’d definitely do it at home. There’s really no need for ‘professional’ valentines cards, especially if you’re handing these out as classroom valentines!

You can use a paper cutter instead of scissors for the long straight parts to help the cutting of these files go quickly! We have a slider style paper cutter like this craft one at home that my kids like to use (paper cutters are way more fun than scissors to little hands!). Since the slider doesn’t detach easily and the blade is really tiny, I feel comfortable even letting my small kids use it for this sort of project.
