If you’re looking for a fun and easy indoor activity to print for the kids this summer break- here’s three free printable color by numbers with a fun summer theme!
These summer color by number worksheets are such a fun activity to see what summer vacation scenes will pop up as you color in the abstract shapes in each different color. They’re a the perfect activity for a rainy day, or when your kiddos need a break from the summer heat or are for when you’re just dreaming of that summer season.
One of the things we love to do every year is create a summer bucket list. I’ve created some printable summer bucket list templates over the years and those activities we add in there are always big and fun and almost always… outdoors!
But sometimes it’s rainy. Or sometimes it’s a heat wave and you were outside all morning. It’s always a great idea to have some easy indoor summer activities on hand, especially for younger kids and any kiddo you’d like to cut down on screen time. These printable color by number summer coloring pages are just that!
I had so much fun creating these summer days color by number printables- I’ve never actually made any before so it was fun figuring out how to disguise the initial design I drew with extra lines. My kids were looking over my shoulder almost the whole time and approve- they’ve requested I print them off for them to do so I’m feeling pretty good about sharing them with you here!
Since this is a first for me- I would love your feedback! Are there other versions of these number coloring pages you’d love to see? They were truly so much fun to create 🙂
This color by number bundle has three sheets to choose from with different summer scenes that reveal themselves as you color the shapes in according to the numbers under the picture.
You could print these off for kids of all ages- you’d just probably want to add the colors to the words below the picture for younger children or even some kindergarten children. If they’re old enough to read the colors, you can let them practice their color word recognition and coloring inside the lines, if they’re too young for the longer words, just add the colors for them to the guide and let them practice their number recognition as they color!
It’s really an easy activity for any kiddos- even older kids would have fun with these, I have kids that are headed into grade 6 (basically middle school… how did that happen so quick?!) and they liked that they couldn’t immediately guess what the picture would be.
I’ll be printing these off for our own family to use at home the next time my kids are looking for some activity sheets, but if you’re a teacher for summer school or a childcare provider, they’d be great for daycare or classroom use as well! Just print the summer worksheets for quiet work in the mornings to help littles practice their fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination and recognition of color words.
There’s three different pages with different fun summer activity scenes for kids to reveal as they color. There’s a beach scene with a bucket, sand shovel, and sand castle, there’s an ocean scene with sunshine, a big wave, a surfboard and floaty tube and there’s a scene with my favourite summer treats- watermelon, ice cream cones and popsicles.

What’s the best way to print free printables
You can print free printables any way you like, but I have a couple suggestions to make the most of them! While every free printable is different, these ones are simple 8.5×11″ PDF documents which makes them incredibly easy to print at home or at your local print shop. They will print just like a document, without special printer settings like a photo.
While I like to print most printables on card stock, this set of printable color by number activity pages is actually very well suited for regular ol’ printer paper.
These free printables are black and white with a white background to save on printer ink.
Depending what you’re planning to use them for… laminate to help them last even longer! If you are going to do this, you could give kids washable markers to color right on them. They’ll wipe clean like dry erase markers!
If you do download and use these… you know I would love to see them in action! Tag me @handletteredprintables or shoot me an email [email protected]!
